Bill Hines, 1923-2016
Custom car builder and icon Bill Hines passed away May 20. He was 94 years old and was best known for his skills as a legendary customizer. He was involved in hot rodding and body customizing for over 70 years.
His first custom car was a 1941 Buick convertible. In the early 1950s, he opened a shop in Detroit and a car he did won the "Best Custom" award at the 1953 Detroit Autorama.
Over his lifetime he worked for some of the most well-known hot rodding icons. Among them were the Alexander Brothers and Barris Kustoms.
Hines' trademark was smoking a cigar while he was working. Known as "Leadslinger" and the "Godfather of Hydraulics" Hines was customizing right up until he died.
