I actually saw this done once by someone I knew in army ROTC before I'd gone USAF OTS instead, Iit was on the west point rappelling cliff, I couldn't believe it at first, lol....

I always liked the Australian style, I was taught it in highschool JROTC on the cliffs in Wisconsin. It's fun.

This was the very first rappel that was taught to us in Bad Tolz , Germany. Down a ice covered mountain side. Left hand controlling the rope and right hand on holding m 16. Must be able to fire on the way down... Actually I thought it was fun. I rappled at least three more times down that slippery slope..
