Not A Wise Idea... Every time they do it... they have to re-invent the Wheel...

Agreed. When will we realize that HUMINT/Reconnaissance through 19D-Scouts/13F-FO's and the entire 18 series is a crucial component in understanding and comprehending the theater of operations.
Tactics is what you employ WHEN there is something to do;
Strategy is what you do PRIOR to something to do.

Hey, remember when that General Officer said we don't need track vehicles anymore? Yeah, the damn GIF (good idea fairy) flying around some desk jockey's cubicle. Whenever the military believes that tech can replace the human element I get concerned. These ideas generally come from someone who is deeply involved in tech and has very little human interface. IMHO

These LRS teams have some equipments that I think have been handed over to other expeditious units. Eye's on target or to be movie savvy, looking for HVT outta bounds is what they do. It's more of doing spot report but with bells and whistles. I think going lightweight is more than just a light plate carrier now. Technology wise, you'd have to run faster in an urban area while blending in with the crowd. That is more like movie theory to me.
Yet these soldiers are highly effective from prior units they were in. They have a selection process of which they recruit from within the base.
Although furled up now, the men that were in a LRS-D/U are living relics. Especially the linemen.

Technology will never be able to replace the intuition and assessment of real people actually seeing, feeling, and experiencing the environment they are scouting. But I'm just a scout, what do I know compared to desk jockies with the good ideas?

My assessment? When Russian EW degrades our tactical and operational level UAS, they're sure going to miss those assets.

LRS are obsolete until we face a peer or near peer. Our UAVs won't fare as well against the Ruskies as they do in uncontested skies. Though neither will long range recon units!

Ok of course it is a mistake... take out our satellites and we are blind. Check out developments by the Chinese to do just that. We all use GPS in the car till it fails then it’s back to paper maps. Typical overestimate by a generation of leaders who have never experience another way to do it.

I'm an information technologist. When tech falls short. The human element is needed.
