Although the incoming test provides a better indication of individual fitness, I feel the older test is easier to execute at any time and virtually any location. We will run into issues with availability of equipment and viable locations, especially for the reserve components, and many Soldiers may struggle with training for the specified events. You think physical fitness problems are bad now? Just wait.

That said, I personally look forward to the change. There will be a period of turbulence but I think the new test is the "hard right" for our organization. Another thing that we can focus on is the archaic body composition standards. Maybe allow those who can score on the higher end to have a "bye" on body fat standards.

I agree I think the biggest hurdles will be equipment and space required to take this new test. I have attempted the new events a few times and I agree that it gives a much better picture of a soldier's combat fitness and readiness. I also agree that there will be some growing pains and soldiers will have to learn how to prepare for this new test.

still includes the 2 mile run.... 34 years and I've never had to run more than 50 feet anywhere other than on a PT test.

My unit ran a mock ACFT a few months ago. The majority of our unit passed the test. The key failures were in the female population across multiple events, and overall issues passing the deadlift and the leg tuck. However, I personally feel this test is a better gauge to a Soldiers overall fitness level. As MSG Gould pointed out, the logistics of taking the test are much more difficult than the current APFT. However, in determining the fitness of Soldiers, this is a step in the right direction.
