Even though I am not in the USMC nor the United States Navy, I still think they could use ships that are also in mothballs in certain instances. It's so sad that we've had eight years of sequestration that the Air Force and the Navy have half of their planes grounded for lack of spare parts. It could have been worse but I'm glad we have a president that cares more about defense than about global warming that's good to continue to warm up even if we all drove electric cars. Hopefully, we'll get a new budget Bill authorized and we can get the Marines to the level needed period. The peace dividend is a joke. We have so many threats in the world in addition to North Korea that we need to have Marines be able to do the skill sets required as part of a Marine Expeditionary Force/MEU common tasks.

The only reason we had sequestration was because the republicans refused to vote for anything that increased the deficit at all. They said that deficit spending was a horrible thing that would destroy the country. Of course, that concern about the deficit has suddenly completely disappeared with Trump in the WH and republicans having control of both branches of congress. So now they are willing to pass a defense budget and tax reform bill that adds over a trillion dillars to the deficit. Yeah, that same deficit that they insisted could not be increased, even if it meant reducing defense spending.

Betteridge's law of headlines seems to always be relevant.

If the headline is a question, the answer is "no."

Never heard of that "law". But is self evident once heard.
Thanks for sharing that. I wondered why I have often simply said "No" to myself and moved on when I read a headline which was a question..
Good to know I'm on the right side of that particular law.

This is an issue with all branches of our Military. You can only stretch a rubber band so far before it snaps.
