Information, particularly Digital Information, has become the most powerful force in the world, and whoever holds the most, can potentially control and direct the course of humanity and the world.
The Hacktivist Collective Anonymous' movement around the world has effectively engaged in fear tactics against the most powerful people on Earth, with threatening videos claiming Anonymous to be “Legion,” the symbolic Guy Fawkes representation of defending freedom from tyranny, targeted attacks against individuals, essentially destroying their lives forever, their calculated wielding of the sword of populous uprisings, and even toppling governments by indirect force.
Simultaneously, as the breachers of informational boundaries and government privacies, the collective has taken on the global role of advocating equality through destruction of the societal elite, shaking the nerves of individuals and institutions everywhere. As the former head of the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) National Cybersecurity Division, Andy Purdy, noted, “everyone is vulnerable” to Anonymous, and nobody dares to speak against them for “fear of retribution,” no matter their position or perceived power.
Anonymous is either a chaotic retributionary force, as they would like to be perceived, or there is a leading component, directing the collective with slight of mouse, and plotting maniacally from the shadows. Either way, the Anonymous hacktivist collective has pervaded the geopolitical community with a justified fear of destruction, and they are taking advantage of international disputes to further their ultimate goals of ending governmental control of humanity.
The question remains, however, of whether they would seek to install themselves into the role of human comptrollers after the chaos, or let the world fall into anarchy? What does Anonymous seek - Power for themselves, or Freedom for the People?
