Pretty logical move. Never thought much about satellites and ability to communicate with them until I was assigned to HQUSCENTCOM in the 80s. That's when I learned all about how satellites are aimed for certain regions and if you were outside that region getting information from a satellite wasn't necessarily easy to do. Africa certainly isn't an area that is a priority for satellites launched by western nations, so it makes sense for African nations to launch their own.
