to hard to keep in "tune' without climate g control their reading drift due to temperature and expiation for the mechanical parts, and component heating of the electrical parts,
Digital cam einto prominence for every good reasons. Not to mention that a 5 dollar raspberry pi can do everything on of those old monuments of engineering can do more accurately and more reliably. I spent half my military career at leas dealing with analog equipment in communications, few who did that miss it

Electromechanical analog fire control computers operated surface guns for decades. Great for ships since they respond to every movement. Unsuitable for other platforms besides ships due to their size, weight, and associate sensor components. As a pre-PC computer engineering student, we studied the mathematical equivalence of mechanical machines; cams, shafts, levers, gears, etc. I enjoyed watching the machine work. But, because it had hundreds of moving parts, it needed a lot of TLC. Very expensive to maintain since all the parts had to be expertly machined. A digital system is much smaller, lighter, and repairable.

As with anything cutting edge for its' time, there will be limitations. But it is so freaky that this small capacity did so much and was so critical to the military. Compared to the advanced encryptions, capacity, and size of the 21st century technology that former capacity couldn't make the telephone ring.
