That's the way we've been doing it in the army for decades

MAJ (Join to see) I'm pretty sure all branches officers do it this way. The Army implemented it for enlisted to mirror the officers

That is the way it has been done in the Army for quite a while. Reach the 10 year or so mark and re-enlist and then you don't have to anymore. You are simply in until you get out or get put out. All the services need to implement this as it is just good policy and sense.
