You will see this affect the Ordnance Corps heavily as well. Many Ammunition Supply Points (in Afghanistan and across the world) are being turned over to civilian contractors. I almost never used my 89B MOS while in the National Guard and requested and was moved into a 92Y slot for that very reason. I've heard similar stories from others in the ammo field, but I think we will definitely be seeing a surge of logistics jobs going to contractors in the future.

SPC (Join to see), There were contractors, who worked for Brown&Root, in Vietnam. I asked a backhoe operator, why weren't the Corps of Engineers doing those contractor jobs. He told me Johnson has a lot of stock in B&R, and he's making boo coo money via the contractors. I don't know if that's still the case, but it wouldn't surprise me.

SGT (Join to see) - To their credit, the contractors do provide a sense of continuity for incoming and outgoing units to help ease the transition. Some of them have been out in Afghanistan for upwards of 10 years (not including R&Rs). However, contracting is very profitable, and it wouldn't surprise me if more than a few politicians on both sides were pocketing some of that revenue.

SPC (Join to see), Someone is making money off the contractors. It's good to hear they help ease the transitions. One of my brother-In laws, works overseas construction and makes a ton of money. He's been to Iraq and Afghanistan. He doesn't want to go back, but he's been there. Thanks for your input. It clears up some things for me.

This happen as we pulled out of Iraq, as they closed camps the numbers of contactors increased even the security type like the Gurkhas and others. My last deployment to AFG in 2012 that's what they were doing then same thing as Iraq. We had to DEMO a ATC tower and moved to another FOB they was going to be controlled by Civilian ATC's, so we need to reconstruct it and then the Marines would pull their war asset mobile ATC tower down. That was a fun task let me tell you, camp we pulled tower from was getting hit all the time as they were probing knowing the FOB was closing down.
