A soft-spoken 19-year-old told jurors he felt uncomfortable after he decided to alert the FBI about "surreal and scary" text messages from his father in the weeks before the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol.
Testifying in the first trial related to the insurrection, Jackson Reffitt said his father, Guy Reffitt, warned that he and others were about to "rise up," in a family text chain on Christmas Eve 2020.
"What's about to happen will shock the world," Guy Reffitt typed to his family, only a couple of weeks before a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to stop Congress from certifying the 2020 presidential election's electoral votes.

He did the right thing but it had to be very difficult to do. Even worse is testifying against your father

I saw on a news clip on YouTube that he allegedly threatened his children over this incident. He supposedly said to his teenage son and daughter that reporting him to the authorities would make them 'traitors' and that traitors get shot.

Doing the RIGHT THING is always hard, especially when it is family. A father threatening his children is NEVER appropriate from those RIGHT, CENTER, or LEFT on the political continuum!!!
Everyone's opinion RIGHT, WRONG, or INDIFFERENT must be heard WITHOUT THREAT of violence or overt political shackling and MUST also be able to be CHALLENGED in the court of public opinion free from threats in any form!!!
Democracy requires the capacity to agree to disagree but does not include the right to silence a voice, as a result of that disagreement, even those with whom one might most disagree. We have a personal and collective responsibility to assure each voice can be heard without resorting to tyranny in any form from anyone!
For the mature among us, it is a tough balancing act! Acting with honor while speaking truth to power! Some get it and other just don't!
