It is fascinating to look at the flotsam and jetsam of surplus war material. I once saw a photo of surplus P51 Mustangs, their engines removed and their noses planted in the ground, waiting with their tails pointing towards the sky to which they would never return, waiting to be scraped. Then there are the stories of surplus WWII machines, from tanks to bulldozers, being pushed off the beach to collect in the abysmal depths lying offshore Pacific and Indian Ocean islands. Then there's this. Think of all the wealth spent creating all that surplus. Was it wasted? I suppose not inasmuch as we're still enjoying our freedom...
