Did you know U.S. rowing is sponsoring a program called Freedom Rows for Veterans?
I just learned of this program, when I received an email from U.S. rowing about it.
"USRowing will be opening boathouse doors throughout the country to disabled veterans and members of the armed services, so they can Join Our Team and experience the full range of opportunities and benefits to be gained from recreational rowing at their VA sports facility, or local club, to competing in the Paralympics.
The Grants for Adaptive Sports Programs for Disabled Veterans and Members of the Armed Forces (ASG Program) provides grant funding to organizations to increase and expand the quantity and quality of adaptive sport activities disabled veterans and members of the armed forces have to participate in physical activity within their home communities, as well as more advanced Paralympic and adaptive sport programs at the regional and national levels. Through the grant, USRowing will be partnering with VA rehabilitation hospitals and USRowing member organizations in six cities across the United States including Denver, Raleigh/Durham (N.C.), Oklahoma City, Palo Alto/Los Gatos (Calif.), San Diego, and Detroit."
I'm adding a little information about U.S. Rowing's background for anyone who has questions about it.
"About USRowing: USRowing is a nonprofit organization recognized by the United States Olympic Committee as the governing body for the sport of rowing in the United States. USRowing has 75,000 individual members and 1,200 member organizations, offering rowing programs for all. USRowing’s official suppliers include Concept 2, Croker Oars, JanSport, Nielsen Kellerman, Vespoli and WinTech. USRowing also receives generous support from the National Rowing Foundation and its corporate sponsors and partners: ANXeBusiness Corp, Boathouse Sports, Bucket List Events, Connect-A-Dock, EMCVenues, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Rudy Project and Shimano. USRowing relies on strong partnerships to enable continued success. America Rows, which supports diversity in rowing and provides opportunities for those with disabilities, also benefits from corporate support."
