RP members another great story about a Veteran pitching in and working together to help other veterans! Good stuff - we need more of it around this country. Do something good for a Veteran or as a Veteran for someone else.

When James Gilmer grew up in the New Holland Village in the 1950s, every house had a garden in the backyard.
“Well, if a man in the village got sick, people didn’t go to him and say, ‘What can I do for you?’ They’d just go and start doing it. They’d help the man with his garden,” Gilmer said.
This philosophy is ingrained in Gilmer’s thinking. It’s how he lives life.
They say what goes around comes around.
Diagnosed three years ago with pulmonary fibrosis — a disease that scars the lungs — Gilmer’s health has been on the decline ever since. He and wife, Jan, haven’t been able to keep up with chores around the house the way used to. That’s why Gilmer’s buddies from the Vietnam War have stepped in to lend a hand.
On Wednesday, Vietnam veterans Jimmy Thompson, Lyman Coker and James Brown, all of Gainesville, spent much of the morning cleaning gutters, trimming hedges and clearing limbs from the Gilmers’ home on Mill Street in Gainesville.

That is great news COL Mikel J. Burroughs It is wonderful when folks gather together ro help out the friends and even people they don't know.
It would be interesting if veterans would form an organization with local chapters like Habitat for Humanity that could assist other veterans in need of housing repairs.
I think many veterans offer their time ans service to Habitat for Humanity as well as being volunteers for Samaritans Purse who help families hit by natural disasters.

I LOVE reading this stuff!!! I volunteer for the Veterans Outreach Center and the VFW (because if I picked up a hammer I'd probably end up in emergency)! It makes me so proud to see people doing this without even thinking about it. Thank you for sharing this, COL Mikel Burroughs.

I know a Vietnam Vet that could use some help like that other than just mine and it's my Dad he was in the 1st Air cav up till 1968
