The government always low balls when it comes to land. Give them what they are asking $13.6 million. That comes to $34,000 per acre and be done with it. I just think forcing someone off their land is wrong. Now for some humor:

The thing is, that is what the family thinks it is worth. They did not get an assessor to do the research for them. So the $5.6 million maybe in the ball park. The family is in a legal bind regardless.

But it was really a weather balloon !
I think they should pay asking price. What is the damn issue with these political crap. I suspect it is over some idiotic opinion.
Example, remote unit wanted phone with gps, note taking, and phone. $500 for an iphone was denied, because people may think we splurge on tax dollars. So we goes out and bought a new windows phone for $450 or so that doesnt really work, as it was untested.
Los Alamos sent their guys to meeting with mac pro. It's kind of overkill for their office app, but at least it doesnt break and suffers unknown errors. Or simple stuff like overheating, and freezing up.
Air Force should just pay asking price.

TSgt Scott Hurley - I wonder what they pay taxes on? Why not just get an appraiser ?

But if you want to read or listen to a good history of the base try "Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base" by Annie Jacobsen. I listened to it on a geo-road trip and thought it was pretty good. Avialible from Audible.com

I once watched a show that said all the alien stuff was kept at Wright Patt. Not Area 51.

At this point, it's pretty much a done deal, take the money and leave or get nothing and leave, easy choice to me.
