First and foremost operational security must be preserved. With the advent of technology, most notably social media security can be compromised this goes for press and military alike

Agreed, but keep in mind that the audience is much larger than the American public. I've seen posts on Google Earth that were, in essence, battle damage assessments for the opposition. Why feed them info on which tactics work?

I just keep thinking of when Geraldo was imbedded w/ SpecOps guys in the ME. The proceeded to do a satellite report live, giving their position away. Fortunately, no one was lost due to this ingnorance & he was yanked immediately from that location.

I haven't read the article COL Mikel J. Burroughs, I don't need to. There is news that should be reported in a war and there is news that shouldn't. When the news media began showing pictures of dead Americans and dead Vietnamese babies, we were automatically in the wrong being there. It began one of the worst controversial wars in history. Our own people turned against us. I think had the news been presented without all of the videos and how many Americans were killed ever day, things might have been different. When we invaded Iraq, the only news about casualties was the Iraq soldiers deaths. The only dead bodies shown were the Iraq soldiers. Our troops came home with their heads held high. The only one getting slammed was President Bush, because no WMD were found. I was so happy to see our troops respected, and I still am.
