Here's my perspective here, by speaking to specific groups.
People who align themselves to the Democrat party or most of the tenants of the Democrat party absolutely do share a love of this country. Unfortunately, and to the frustration of some, Democrat leadership has a tendency to pander to virtually any group of people, regardless of whether they cross the line to what most Americans align to. This move toward "inclusiveness" tends to divide even several of the Democrat members, promting some to become independent or to move to the right.
Democrat leaders (i.e. those in office or running the party) have a tendency to follow suit with what ever the bandwagon has dictated, even if it puts them in a tedious position with their voter base and they all too often need to find something else that satisfies them enough to tolorate the pandering. Put simply, the bandwagon itself wants to please everyone and tends to be incapable of picking a direction and sticking to it when it detracts from one group over another. Even if it means they are heading down an unamerican path. This in turn sucks those who aling to Democrats into the mix.
Then there are of course the misinformed, those who don't care, and those that simply just want stuff they really haven't earned. They are the ones Democrats will pander to and they are the reason I will never align to such a group. This category can even include some within the Democrat leadership which simply just wants power over anything and to establish complete control over all other parties (and they can become the most dangerous of people if successful).
I know plenty of Democrats who still genuinely love the US and still disagree with how to make it better. Some are politicians, some are simply friends or family. Most think they can just ignore the far left elements of their party, thinking they have no control of the agenda, or that nobody is taking them seriously enough. This recent election has shown many of these folks had to have crossed over or sit things out. If the Democrat party continues as they have since Trump came into the picture, they will become a fractured party, possibly prompting another to form which moves away from the hard left and aligns to consistent American ideals.
