This is misleading - the company, regardless of what Vance’s role in it is, owns the property and investors do not have direct ownership of any of it. They are apparently making money off of those who lease the property back from the company. From your link:

“This is not, however, the same as owning the land itself. As AcreTrader explains, "you don't own a specific location on the subject property, you do have an ownership in an entity that holds legal title to the land."“

What it sounds like like you’re implying, is that the investors are scooping up the property for themselves directly. This actually does not look much different than foreigners investing in McDonalds, which makes most of their money through the real estate leases of the franchises, not the food sales.
