Forgive me and move on if you've seen me post this story before. I use it when appropriate and it's becoming appropriate more frequently these days. I helped a friend obtain employment in Moscow shortly after the Iron Wall fell and the Soviet Era came to an end. He was to help develop a business center in a newly built American hotel. He had dreams of introducing Russians to the American system of Free Enterprise. I warned him to be cautious. The Russians weren't ready for it. Indeed, most pined for the halcyon days of Uncle Joe. They had no love of freedom and the responsibility that attends freedom. Well, his boss was murdered shortly after carrying a cell phone to Boris Yeltsin who was barricaded in the Presidential Palace. Thus, I am sympathetic with President Trump's attempt to negotiate with Putin. He had the right idea but the wrong man.
