Not the first time we have done that exercise. That was the reason I ended up on Adak during the first Cold War. And just in case someone hasn't noticed, the Russians share a border with Alaska. Big Diomede and Little Diomede are less that 3 miles apart and the Bering Straits is less than 35 miles wide at its narrow point. My point being that the Russians have always flown near Alaska.

MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. - During the exercise I was involved with in Adak, there was a squadron of F15 moved to the island. When the Soviets "accidently" encroached on our airspace, they would takeoff, get wheels up and then just go vertical.

Of course, we never played those kind of games
