Call for Citizen Volunteers
Perhaps there is interest . . . and/or some of you might know folks who could be interested.
This is tedious work, in some cases, but interesting too. I did some of this a few years ago (however the horrendous barking dog problem. every day, throughout the day, prevented continuing, at the time).
Used to think my penmanship was atrocious. Doesn't compare to some of what can be found here! Luckily most of it is decipherable. Wonderful feeling of success when a word or letter that seems undecipher, is suddenly understandable! Knowing some of the word usage in those days, as different from today, helps, and of course knowing military terminology does, also. There are also good clues in the context where each item are located.
Hopefully, there is quality control for the work done, so that whoever is finalizing the work is able to determine the accuracy. Once it becomes clear what an undecipherable word or letter actually is, it also fits into the context!
"Uncover stories of the American Revolution told by the people who lived it
The National Park Service and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) are collaborating on a special project to transcribe the pension records of more than 80,000 of America’s first veterans and their widows. The project will make a permanent contribution to the historical record for the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution."
