For two women, way to Ranger School history lies through Florida swamps
Of the 19 women who started Ranger School, a captain and a first lieutenant – both West Point graduates – remain. Make it through one more week of swamp training, and they will become the first women to wear a Ranger tab.
Interesting article, (read before you comment) and it appears the RIs attest to the toughess and abilities of these leaders. It will be interesting to see how this impacts the looming Jan 16 deadline for the Army to report to DOD on jobs/units that need to remain closed to women.
I am excited for the leaders, personally.

I hate commenting on posts like this for a few different reasons. One reason being that it is a very sensitive subject dealing with a politically charged subject. Women in combat arms, women in ranger school, women in special forces, ect. are all hot right now. The challenge for everyone right now will be separating facts from feelings.

1SG (Join to see) - I had not ever heard the no peer thing? That makes sense for the reasons you stated, but I had never heard that. Hmmm.

If true, this is indeed a different standard for them. Every other Ranger has to deal with the peer evaluations and if they are not a true team player, they can get peered out. So if the women are protected from this process, they are different from every other Ranger student. If this is true, it leads me to believe that the Army was going to get female Rangers regardless.

There have been several other rumors coming out of the RTB and it is all unconfirmed but the RIs I spoke to when I was at Benning last December were not happy with the rules that were being put down.
Our 1SG is an old school Batt boy, and he got info that pissed him off. Something about a patrol gone awry where the entire leadership chain was a no-go except for one person. It is all conjecture without proof.

This has been a 100% Canine and Equestrian Lallapalooza from day one. All that is left is to wait on the tv movie on the Oprah network, Lifetime, Oxygen. They can be portrayed by Demi Moore and Sigourney Weaver. I am actually quite proud of them but sick and tired of the hype. Like many of the media stories these days, you will have the story force fed to you until you start getting angry and if you have anything negative to say, expect to be called every name in the book. The only people who truly know if they were treated like everyone else are the people in their class, and Lord help them if they make any negative comments. I look forward to the day when we don't raise an eyebrow over something like this. That is when you convince me that we have equality.

I really think it depends on what they come out doing/saying... Are they going to be going back to their support job/unit, puffing their chest out letting everyone know "they're a ranger" (despite not being in a Rgr Bn, let alone a combat role)? ... Or are they going to be humble about their accomplishments and actually act like a leader should?
If they're going to be insecure women who "need" to be heard and seen, then screw 'em... They're useless. If they're going to be solid, strong women, and act like it - with some dignity about the whole thing.. then great!
