Marines may revamp pistol training to require more lethal shots

Little old news but still interesting. The Marine Corps unlike the Army is going to precision point target engagements. So you will have to restrict fire onto a smaller surface area of the target to be counted and scored as an impact. The current Army , Air Force and Navy impact scoring zone uses a large green plastic target for impact with no plans on changing it.

We had the single bull's eye target for the .45 in AIT. What was changed was the number of shots from 50 to 300. We were tested using different positions, like standing, prone, even shooting from the hip, etc. Our company was the first first to be tested and everyone qualified.

Sadly I was an abject failure from every position, and I had some excellent trainers. It isn't there fault I can squeeze a ripe tomato, flinch at loud noises, and have the forearm strength of a one year old.

CPL Douglas Chrysler - You are like my friend Bruce. he wasn't in the Army, but one time we went to a Pistol Range. He picked up a .45 for the first time, and doggone if he didn't leave a shot group you could cover with a silver dollar. No training. No nothing. And from then on, he loved pistols, and pistols shooting

In the 82nd ABN 2/508 Inf at Bragg, our pistol with a 1911, hit the 55 gallon drum with at least 3 rounds, and you were an expert. Lol

I was always told by the army Vietnam vets that, the Airforce is the only service that takes a B-52, with a 1000# bomb, drops it, and to only kill one guy. Lol
With all the funing around set aside, the Marines have very good pistol program, as well as the individual firearm training.
In 1995, I had the privilage of taking the Marines Combat Handgun Course with the III MEF SOTG unit out of Okinawa.
I was a police office at the time, in the SEAS team (Special Enforcement Amphibious Section), a SWAT, but amphibious. I was also taking their sniper course to get cetified by the FBI.
