And by most accounts, this is just a fraction of it.

I think I may have seen this post before. When I was in college, they called this one the great plunder. I think I posted about that. Lots of robbery led by thugs. One of the worst things you could do or see if you lived anywhere in Europe with the Crusaders coming towards your town to go through on the way to rob other people, it wasn’t a pleasant scene. Some of the stuff has been given back, but I doubt seriously whether the queen of England or different countries in Europe will get back to stuff that adore their palaces and museums. The people that originally Own this stuff are long dead. But some of their descendants are still around even though the country or the border might be a little bit different. And I have no idea what would be the right way or wrong way to go about giving stuff back.
