During storms, when ships ran aground or were taking water cargo was often dumped overboard to lighten a ship. I could see a ship that ran aground or being battered in a storm and taking water dumping the horses overboard. The ship may have survived, as apparently did the horses. Last summer at a family get together we went on a kayak trip to Assateague Island. It was a fun time. The people renting the kayaks didn’t know about the theory that the horses were Spanish in origin.

Not sure I'll get back to Virginia again, but if I do a stop in the area is on the agenda. Who knows, the alumni association and a few friends keep bugging me to come back.
