The days of coal have ALWAYS been numbered. By the quantity of coal.

When the last of the coal runs out, then the world will stop burning it. And not before.

This is true, but it is not in China, India and other countries. 2023 was a record year for coal.

Since China became Communist the environment hasn't been on their top 1000 list. Unfortunately all those other countries rely on China to build their power plants and sell them coal.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - True but China is not the only one building more coal fired plants and the west can shut them all down and not make a dent since China alone just built 27 new plants and have more than double that in the planning stages.

And --> the over/under on *Western* v. *Rest* of the world

Excerpts from 10APR24 NYT article @ link: *Today, China accounts for around 60 percent* of the world’s coal use, followed by India and then the United States. India relies most intensively on coal, with 80 percent of its electricity generation derived from it. "...China, and, to a lesser extent, India, are still planning to build coal plants *many* years from now. In 2023, new coal plant construction hit an *eight-year high* in China. If China were to build all the others it has proposed, it would add the equivalent of one-third of its current operating fleet.
