The Russian people are tired of the war, but instead of blaming Putin, they're just getting angrier at the West, which instigated the war when it meddled in Ukraine's elections and installed puppet leaders friendly with the West. They know that the West is taking advantage of Ukrainian corruption and see this war as one that must be won at all costs.

Would we tolerate the Chinese operating secret Biolabs in Mexico and Canada and replacing their leaders with ones that supported Chinese foreign policy interests? Oh wait, we have Chinese puppet Joe Biden in office who we are supposed to believe got the most votes in a Presidential election after having failed twice previously and whose VP likewise failed in their Presidential campaign... Aaaand we have fentanyl from China killing thousands of Americans... but I digress.

Standard Liberal response. Introduces a straw man argument. The war is very real and we instigated it. It goes all the way back to the Obama Admin which meddled in Ukraine's elections and got the Russian-friendly puppet leader replaced with a Western-friendly puppet leader. Following were attacks on ethnic Russian-speaking citizens by ethnic Ukrainians.

Russia would not have invaded had we not expanded NATO eastward (breaking our promise to Russia multiple times with the admission of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia to NATO). Russia did not go to war over it then, but they clearly weren't happy about it and we didn't care. When we floated NATO membership to Ukraine, that was more than they could stomach.

Putin does not want Western Central Banks enslaving Russian citizens in debt and he doesn't want Woke Western culture on their border infecting their society. The West was also operating secret biolabs there and given what happened with the secret biolab we were funding in Wuhan, China, which killed a bunch of Russian citizens with the leak of COVID-19, it was yet another reason provoking Russia to attack and shut it down.

Putin saw his chance with President Biden whom he correctly perceives as a cognitively challenged puppet (aka weaksauce). Putin gambled that he could take Ukraine in a few days or weeks at most and he didn't think Biden would be able to do anything about it. What he didn't count on was the resistance put up by Ukraine as well as the united response from the US and Europe.

Putin sees himself standing up against the Progressive New World Order. He wants to protect Russia from Western influence, which he sees as evil, and he wants to stop NATO's expansion into Ukraine. This is a war that in his eyes must be won at all costs.
Losing is not an option for him because he understands that if he is ousted, he is as good as dead. One might think that this conflict would have made Putin a pariah amongst his people, but they are mad that Europe has gotten involved in their squabble with Ukraine (which they know is very corrupt). They blame the West for their suffering and rightly so.

You quoted Progressive BBC as if it is a politically objective news source. Just as in the U.S. the media in the EU is controlled by Progressives and their reporting tends to reflect their Progressive agenda. The BBC is the UK equivalent of NPR here and you'd have a tough time convincing anyone that NPR is unbiased in its political reporting.
