If my child was in this school official's school or classroom, my child would be transferred as necessary to ensure this school official had no input into my child's education. If that was not possible, my child would be home schooled.

So what about kids who have parents who are abusive? What about kids whose parents are neglectful? I mean...it's missing some context what they're even talking about but if it's about letting parents know a child has come out as LGBTQIA, sometimes it's better a parent doesn't know because some parents have KILLED their kids over being gay, bi, trans, etc. Or abused them. Or sent them to those horrible torture camps (aka conversion camps). So where's the context.

Maj John Bell - And CPS/DCFS, whatever it's called in each state, is horribly corrupt and kids have been put back in abusive homes and sometimes it's excused as "religious freedom." So spare me that bs that CPS removes kids who are abused. Especially when kids have died in CPS care or in foster care. Plenty of parents have gotten away with sending their kids to these camps etc.

FERPA’s guidance addresses official name changes, requiring documentation supporting the name change. FERPA requires that educational institutions allow parents or eligible students to review education records, and to request that the school amend records that they believe are “inaccurate” or “misleading” or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights. FERPA does not preclude schools from otherwise sharing the minor student’s gender identity, transgender status, or preferred name with the parents. If a student’s transgender status is included in his or her education records, parents of minor students have a right to see that information."

If it's not in their education record and hasn't been officially changed, then FERAP doesn't apply...

SFC Kelly Fuerhoff - So what's your solution? "Silence is golden?" What is the likelihood that given the light of day, assets may be brought to bear for a better all-around solution than silence. What is the likelihood that by being kept in the dark, parents may engage in behavior that unintentionally does more harm. Given the choice between a government one size fits all approach or the probability that parents will do right by their kids, my money is on the parents.

Every year about 35 per 100,000 kids in foster care die. For those under parental care the figure is about 25 per 100,000. So, the difference is about 10 per 100,000.

Unfortunately the data I found does not differentiate between accidental death, homicide, illness etc. But the data base acknowledges a raft of confounding variables with higher incidence among kids in foster care than among kids under parental control (poor pre-natal care, post-natal care, poverty, chronic illness, behavioral problems, etc.) that were beyond the ability of the researchers to isolate.

About 12% of children will experience sexual molestation or assault during their school years by a member of their school staff.
