Cruz allegedly took out a knife from his pocket, held it to Shimmy's throat and threatened him, Shimmy said. He said he was able to shove Cruz's arm down, get out of the way and get a bartender's attention.
The bar's staff called police, and Cruz was arrested. An officer found a knife in Cruz's jacket pocket, according to police.

This happens to women no matter where we go. It doesn't matter if we say "no." it doesn't matter if we say we're in a relationship. It doesn't matter if a woman says she's a lesbian. There are men who just refuse to step away when turned down. It even doesn't matter if another man is there. There are men, more often than not, who just can't handle rejection.

While the woman was out drinking at a bar full of random people, a drunk man who was not attending the conference tried to hit on her. Another man who she knew and who was attending the conference stepped in to tell the drunk to leave her alone. The drunk reacted belligerently (as drunks often do). The bartender called the police and the drunk was arrested.
But somehow this is the fault of the conference and the industry.
