Not long ago, the Mexican gray wolf — or the lobo — was on the brink of extinction. When it was first listed as endangered in 1976, McGee says there were no Mexican gray wolves left in the wild. Ranchers and the U.S. government had launched a successful campaign to eradicate them.

Cpl Vic Burk I've Never Seen a Wolf in the Wild, We do Have Coyotes here though, See them Occasionally.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - We got lots of coyotes around here. The only time I have seen on in the wild is when they did the reintroduction of the Red Wolf in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Sadly the project failed and they recaptured them all.

I was lucky enough see some in the wild when stationed in Michigan UP. Was fishing in Whitefish Bay and a pack came to the shore to drink and play, stayed around for 10 minutes or so then vanished.
