A company recall notice posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website and Dole's company website states that the salad kits were recalled because they were processed on the same line as a cheese product from Rizo-Lopez Foods, which had previously been recalled for the "possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes."

I have always wondered what the final preparation is like before produce is shipped out considering the endless possibilities for contamination. Many years ago a cantaloupe farmer died. His son took over the operations and got rid of the final wash of the fruit. Several people in the US died. He went out of business. I don't see why the workers were unable to catch that and correct it.
