Great article!
There was a time when Democrats would line up to hang out with Trump, but then he got into politics and changed teams. You CANNOT leave the Democrats without being ostracized for life, and with being ostracized you will apparently never leave their heads. Living rent free in liberal heads is the biggest boost for anything Trump has done or will do going forward. Their left wing lunacy only cements right wing support for Trump.

Trump never switched teams. He has always been on team Trump and still is.
As a rich guy in business, it was in his best interest to buy politicians. *Ahem* Pardon me, I meant "generously donate to political campaigns." As a New York businessman, it naturally made sense to skew his *ahem* donations heavily toward Democrats, because they ran everything there. Trump had no particular solidarity with the Democrat cause, he was simply cozying up to the folks who could make things happen - or stop them from happening.
Once he decided to become a politician himself, he knew he had no real policy or record to run on, so he would have to run on his brand. And he saw a better opening running as a Republican than as a Democrat. Plus he had started to build a base with the whole "birther" thing which somehow did *not* come back to bite him in the butt. So he made that his campaign. Say audacious stuff about Democrats to get people pissed off enough to vote for him.
Trump has never really ever been a true believer in either party. He is a believer in himself. And he will do or say whatever it takes to fool you into believing, too.
Trump didn't change teams because he was never actually on the blue team to begin with. And despite what he and his people are trying to sell you, he isn't actually on the red team now.
