I think you hit the nail on the head, he's just trying to get a rise out of the community. Or maybe, he didn't spend long enough on active duty to have the opportunity to witness first hand the outstanding abilities of our former enlisted members who have risen to the commissioned ranks. A Mustang, in my view, is typically an Officer commissioned from the enlisted ranks via MCEP, or from W.O. grades, with no break in service. Where as if an enlisted member is discharged, goes on to College or University, or God forbid, one of the service academies ultimately receiving a commission. In his view does that officer not meet the standard described, are they forever tainted as "former enlisted"? Again, I don't think he's had enough time on deck to make these assertions.

*chuckle* .. reading the post heading and the excerpt I had to double check to see if this was a Duffle Blog article or not.

COL Randall C. - I thought it was when I saw it on the articles on my Google page on my phone but saw Task & Purpose...and then started reading part of it and I'm like lol wtf? This part: "“Mustangs erode the esteem, legitimacy and distinct culture of the officer corps like merchants marrying into the aristocracy,” Snook posted on X. “Nevertheless, we are intent on lowering the standards and reducing military service to being ‘just a job’ asap.”" LOL comparing the officer corps to an aristocracy? Seriously? Like...all anyone has to do to be an officer is just get any college degree. Any - degree. It's literally not that hard to come in as an officer - you give some 22 year old authority over people who at minimum already probably have been in 4 years or a PSG who has at least 10-15 on that 2LT. It's so weird to have this attitude. Then I just scrolled the rest and he just sounds soooo elitist for no reason.

COL Randall C. - I am also thinking since this guy already has a Master were the comments posted by Snook to be the basis for a doctoral thesis, poorly rationalised as they are.

I worked with a few good to great mustangs. But the worst Officer I ever had to work with was a prior NCO. Because she had been a SGT for about a month before going to OCS, she decided that she knew everything there was to know about the NCO Corps and how to do job of the entire NCO support channel. She was HORRIBLE.
I worked with a few good to great ring knockers. But the SECOND worst Officer I ever worked with was from West Point. He delegated EVERYTHING and refused to make any decisions. Our PSG had no time to be a PSG, he was too busy being a PL. He ended up getting fired after too many times showing up to meetings and having no idea what was going on. Dude didn't even REVIEW the slides he had PSG put together and submit. Laziest POS Officer ever.
Commissioning source it FAR less relevant than the individual being commissioned.
