Britain reneged on a promise to Palestine in 1917 by declaring it would establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine during WWI (1914 -1918).
Britain had promised that if the Ottoman colonies supported the allies in WWI, when the allies won they would grant independence to those who support the Allies. However, with the Balfour Declaration, prior to the war's end, the allies reneged on their promise to create an independent nation Palestine.
