American and Canadian warships sail through waters between China and Taiwan

U.S. and Canadian warships jointly sailed through the international waters of the contentious Taiwan Strait on Wednesday, just days after a Chinese general said that a war with neighboring Taiwan would be "just and legitimate."
It was the 60th time "freedom of navigation transit" was tracked in the 100-mile-wide waterway since July 2018, according to a chart compiled by Collin Koh, a senior fellow at the Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies think tank. All but 14 of these involved at least one U.S. guided-missile destroyer, and five involved the participation of Canadian ships.

How do you suppose the Union would have responded if Texas had decided to remain independent after Lee's surrender at Appomattox?

Contiguous states all touching. Taiwan isn't touching anything but water. Coastal boundaries kind of delineate a separation, so I think that Texas wouldn't have had a lot of choice. But Taiwan should.

PO3 Shayne Seibert - But my point is that Taiwan was never a separate country, it was always part of China.
China had a civil war (about their economy, just like the US). The "Nationalist" side lost the civil war (just like the Confederacy), but the Nationalist side just holed up in one province (same as if the Confederacy had holed up in one state).
If it was right for the Union to invade the Confederacy and take over all the states, then it should be equally right for China to invade Taiwan to finish their civil war.

MSG Thomas Currie - Except for the fact that they have been a self governing province since British rule. They are internationally recognized as a sovereign nation now. I know that the Chinese play the long game, but this is a little excessive.
