My Father, a WWII Veteran of the US Navy in the Asiatic Pacific theater of Operations was there also for the occupation of Japan and saw Hiroshima in it's aftermath and did have nightmares about what He had seen which much of that is described here. He said nothing was left of the city but for the most part didn't want to talk about what He had seen there in Hiroshima. Considering the combat He endured on Destroyers and Minesweepers this still stood out above even much of that. Dad did have some effect from exposure to radiation at Hiroshima on His skin but did live to age 97 having died earlier this year during May 2023.
