Authorities are investigating a video shared on social media where a man claims to have helped bury a body at Camp Lejeune.
According to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, it is investigating the matter.
“Out of respect for the investigative process, NCIS will not comment further while the investigation remains ongoing,” said NCIS spokesman Jeff Houston.
A spokesperson for the Marine Corps said its team is also investigating the video.
“U.S. Marine Corps Training and Education Command is aware of the content published on social media,” said Major Joshua Pena. “There will be an investigation into the matter in cooperation with appropriate commands and organizations. No additional information is available at this time.”
The reported video was shared a few days ago on TikTok before appearing to be removed. The caption claimed a sergeant based at Camp Lejeune with two other Marines buried a body.
In the video, an unidentified man said the victim was a “biker dude” who was killed after a fight outside of a nightspot in Sneads Ferry.
The group reportedly put the body in the back of a truck and looked for a place to dispose of it.
The man in the video said he was a designated driver that evening, and the group wanted to dump the body in a jetty, but a military police vehicle scared them off. He said they then went to a seldom-used landing zone at the base.
“If you walk into the woods, like 20 to 30 feet in those woods and dig like 10 feet down … there’s a dead body,” the man is quoted as saying in the video.
