From several other accounts -- and the White House's own tweet -- those were not just any random "US Troops" but members of Army Special Forces working in Israel.

People have asked "Is the White House really that stupid?" I certainly hope so, because the alternative would be that they knowingly released pictures of special ops soldiers during an ongoing operation.

Some of the blame, however, must rest with SOCOM for authorizing the photo op. This wasn't some casual mistake where the spec ops boys were caught in the background, this was a deliberately staged photo op that took serious planning and coordination. The absolute best case is that just some low-level White House staffer simply "didn't get the word" about not releasing the photos, but how and why were the photos even taken at all? THAT was a mistake by SOCOM. It was also a mistake by the individual operators themselves and whichever complete idiot ordered them to be there.

There needs to be an investigation of how this photo op itself even happened because the "accidental" release of the photo was inevitable.
