Yeah, yeah. This is a video produced by PragerU, featuring a Breitbart reporter. We get it. There are some few who will complain without even considering the content. Well, the content is entirely correct, real news. Factual. Deal with it. Why now do the Woke want to eliminate Columbus Day and celebrate indigenous Americans instead? Good question. First of all, they are not "indigenous Americans." Every human being who ever inhabited the American continents is an immigrant or the child of immigrants. There is no evidence of humans originating here. Secondly, Columbus did not introduce slavery to the New World. The indigenous peoples were already practicing it before he arrived. Oh, and the purpose of his trip was to open a new trade route to that part of the world Europeans referred to as the Indies. Indeed, the native islanders where Columbus first set foot were glad of his coming. They hoped to enlist him in their fight against the Carib tribe who were eating them. Yes, they were cannibals. Now chew on that...

Issue is that history whitewashed Columbus as a benevolent explorer when he was out for conquest. While the natives were fighting an inter-tribal war and practiced slavery, Columbus followed them in terms of atrocities and all of them were nearly wiped out after his actions.

I have a degree in history, and I never once in college back in the 1980's ever learned that Columbus was a benevolent explorer. Explorer yes, looking for a new route to the far east for the spice trade yes.

No, it's about ensuring history is properly remembered. Mount Vernon still exists as memorial for Washington. They also emphasize that Washington was a slave owner and do not attempt to whitewash the facts.
