The Senate voted 83 to 11 to confirm Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr. to be chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, circumventing a months-long blockade by Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville.
Brown is the first of three generals set to be confirmed to positions after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., set up a process to force votes on their nominations. The Senate is also poised to vote on the nominations of Gen. Eric Smith to be commandant of the Marine Corps and Gen. Randy George to be chief of staff of the Army.
Tuberville has been blocking hundreds of nominees who would normally be approved in large batches with significant bipartisan support.

I see we have people who fail to understand what happens when a Hold is placed. Also given that the majority party does not have the 60 votes need to move past these blockages the processes allowed under the Senate Rules have to be undertaken and that takes time and also face obstacles.
There were going to be no votes on these nominations until public pressure hit a point forcing the minority party to play ball.

Apparently Chuck Schumer finally decided he had milked blaming Tuberville about as far as that was going to go. It was always up to Schumer.

Actually the vote could not happen sooner. A hold is basically a filibuster which requires a cloture vote (60) to break the filibuster and move forward to consideration of the issue. And given a near evenly divided Senate pulling together the votes needed for cloture is basically impossible.
Then there is making use of SENATE RULES. A process which requires a serious investment in time to move something forward. This is why you want people in office who have been around long enough to know how to use the Rules of both the House and Senate.

Thanks for proving my point. Everyone was saying he was hilding up readiness when in fact if the dems did it right they could have had this done already. All political games!
