Ukrainian troops' recapture of two villages near the front lines has "severely degraded" defensive Russian forces on the frontlines, according to a report by a think tank.
According to the respected Institute for the Study of War, citing Ukrainian military officials, Ukrainian troops breached a strategic defensive line that Russian forces tried to hold onto in the area south of Bakhmut.
In doing so it defeated three Russian brigades, the report said.
The Ukrainian recapture of the villages — Klishchiivka and Andriivka — likely left Russian forces battle-worn and less able to fight.

It seeums unlikely Russia will be able to win at this point. What remains to be seen is if Ukraine can win and how long it will take or if they are just in a protracted stalemate.
The net impact for the US is we've just brought about the destruction of Russia's offensive military capability for the foreseeable future in about the least expensive way imaginable. This is a major achievement of Biden's foreign policy.

The end is inevitable unless Putin does something stupid like a Tactical Nuke, but if he does that there will be far larger ramifications for Russia.

I don't think it's inevitable that Russia loses. They've lost support around the world for the action, but they will grind their troops until they quit fighting. Once that happens, the real danger begins. They have already spoken about tactical nukes. They have moved components to Belarus so the range is there without using ballistic weapons.
Wanting Biden to support Ukraine is noble, but if shit went sideways with China or Iran tomorrow, we are not in a position for a protracted war because of the war materiel that has been sent to Ukraine and is not available for our use.
