I agree that humility is an essential component. However, for me it took a greater leap of faith that I would be supported rather than dismissed or ridiculed or told to get over it. I was not at all convinced that my struggles would be validated and I had no desire to be let down. But I decide to take the risk because I knew things were getting worse, and my hopelessness would lead to my demise.

I’m so glad I did. I’m here,16 years later. Pretty good quality of life even.

I encourage everyone to give it a try. And if the MH provider you meet doesn’t fully support you, request another one. The VA is required to find you one that fits!
