Crashing a flying object into the ground is something I've always been trained to avoid, LOL. But you're right, and despite the cost, that I'm sure many complain about, this mission was a fantastic boost to the NASA learning curve. The threat of an asteroid hitting earth may be the stuff of SiFi movies, but so was the Dick Tracy wrist radio back in the 30s.

Excellent commentary, Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen! The experiment was a great success and now we know that we have the capability to clear the trajectory of any object that might crash into the Earth... Some things are worthwhile and this, certainly, is one of them!

Great comments, and in addition, SrA Ronald Moore, to see if it's possible to MOVE a celestial object in space to change it's trajectory away from EARTH... This experiment proved that concept...
