Texas: drunk drivers to pay child support if they kill parents

The intent is good, but this is just a feelgood measure, unless you get the bittersweet result of having your family killed by a multi-millionaire

I think I am ok with it. These kids have to be taken care of. BUT if we reallyheld our DUI laws to task more folks would be thinking twice about driving intoxicated...IMHO.

I actually think a better proposal would be at the first DIU conviction a mandatory week in jail. This would ensure sobriety, then prior to release the convicted person must attend a class on drinking and driving and be required to sign an statement and have it witnessed by the court that they had been given a course on the dangers of drinking and driving and that in the future if found guilty of killing someone while driving under the influence they could be tried for First Degree Murder by Intoxication because they had been previously educated on the possibility but chose to drive while under the influence. This conviction of First Degree Murder by Intoxication would carry a Life sentence without possibility of Parole.

I may seem harsh on this and will profess yes I am. I have known two families devastated by having one or more of their loved ones killed by a driver under the influence.
