"Retired Army Gen. David Petraeus complimented the Ukrainian military for a long-awaited counteroffensive that has disappointed some Western allies , saying the Ukrainian army has “adapted very impressively” to defenses that were more formidable than expected.

“No plan survives contact with the enemy and that has been true in this case,” Petraeus said in a CNN interview Tuesday . “Certainly there were hopes … that they might be able to mount combined arms operations that could penetrate the Russian defenses, but that was before we all learned about the depth of these defenses, about the sophistication of them.”

“The Russians have not distinguished themselves in many respects … but this defense in depth is quite formidable,” he continued."...

Is he serious? The Ukrainian leadership is sending troops on the offensive with almost no air cover, certainly not parity or air superiority, with hastily trained troops, and a significant lack of artillery and ammo to overcome a three layer defense that does have Air Superiority and both a man power and equipment advantage. They aren't adapting and the fact that the leadership is still sending men into that mess is simply murder.
What's the Ukrainian body count? 400,000 dead and half their population has fled since the invasion. There isn't a functioning country left.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - My realistic hat is showing. I am a former grunt and a pretty damn good military and political historian. What's going on in Ukraine is a slaughter instigated by the US and NATO interference inside Ukraine. Supply these guys weapons at this point instead of pushing for a settlement, no matter if it makes Biden happy or not, is simply murder.
