Term limits could go a long ways toward making age a non-issue (and medical conditions to some extent also) - even if it is possible for people to be relected, again - later.
Perhaps require as much time between being allowed to run for election, again, as the amount of time of term limit time?
House maybe a limit of three terms in a row?
No more that two terms (12 years) in a row Senate, imho , although, one might be preferable.
Every other six years the same two people might be elected which might be preferable to one person for many decades in a row.
Perhaps agreeing on the number of years as a limit is what prevents discussions (other than people wanting to be reelected, who are refusing to have the discussion)?

No age requirements, use annual cognitive tests, flunk once and out you go. Anyone screwing with administering the test or the results gets an automatic life sentence.

Maj Kim Patterson Imagine how hopeless can seem to the youth who are becoming politically aware and do not see government doing a good job, in many ways, of functioning in the way our system is designed to function. It must seem awfully hypocritical and corrupt.

Have to agree with MSgt Sweeney. We have term limits. They are called elections. As for the money issue it is troubling. Best idea I can come up with is you have to live in the State to vote for US Senators, Congressional Districts for US House members and the same restrictions would follow at the State and local level. I would throw in having your primary residence in that political subdivision.
