Air quality in some areas around Portland and Vancouver became unhealthy Wednesday morning, due to smoke coming from an industrial fire in Longview, Washington.
The fire is burning in timber on Weyerhaeuser property, and it’s been putting out heavy smoke since Tuesday evening. Winds are carrying the smoke south and east along the Columbia River and into portions of the metro area.
Wednesday morning fire crews were also sent to battle a large fire at an abandoned Kmart in Northeast Portland, which also put out a huge plume of smoke.
The National Weather Service reports the smoke will impact the air quality throughout the day.
