I do own firearms but safe storage has always been atop priority. I think safety every single time I handle a firearm be it pistol, rifle or shotgun. Growing up I owned and handled both rifles and shotguns and learned how to use them properly and safely. I'll also credit NRA shooting courses and I did have NRA shooting medals while growing up. I was always careful of both handling and storage of My firearms and stll am and never have had a mishap or accidental discharge. I don't keep firearms loaded in my home but always assume when handling a firearm it is loaded and ALWAYS check to make sure it's safe. Another thing drilled in by both the NRA and a military academy, I attended as a Cadet and later Military service and then civilian police service.
