Pretty decent advice PO1 William "Chip" Nagel. A couple of cautions, there is a condition called water intoxication, not all sports drinks are the same (check the labels).
I completed a 131 mile bike ride last summer in just over 11 hours. Temps were 95 degrees. I have a specially formulated mix I use (electrolytes, sugars-3 types, aminos, and a small amount of protein) and drink one bottle over the course of an hour plus a bottle of water. The mix is a commercial product that I have tweaked over the course of many years.

Great advice. I drink 1/2 gator aid 1/2 water for heavy sweat for short activities like 5ks. . For longer it gets more complicated and includes some protein.

LTC David Brown as much as I sweat each bottle of mix has around 600 Mg of Sodium, plus potassium, calcium, and magnesium. I have tried to lower the amount of sodium (the other lytes are proportional to the sodium) but when I do, my legs start cramping, so I don’t mess with my lytes anymore.
