I found it disconcerting that my family practice doc asked me about firearms in my home. The fact she is a doctor is unimportant. IMHO someone that really doesn’t know anything about firearms is going to attempt to lecture me on firearms safety. Sorry, that does not compute.

IMHO, it's none of the doctor's business as to what firearms are kept in a family's home. It's the governments' way of making another list to see where their threat is.

Taken from the article:
The most recently available data shows that nearly 49,000 people were killed by gun-related injuries in 2021. Of those deaths, 43% were listed as homicides and 54% were listed as suicide.

Looks like the legal system needs to crack down on criminals. As for the suicide rate, I can't tell you how many times I've sat through training, with hundreds of other Sailors identifying and providing help for those that may be mentally unstable. I don't know what the statistics are, but I do understand that most suicide victims don't really want to end their lives, they just don't know how to keep living in their current condition. Definitely very sad. Don't get me wrong, I have multiple family members, blood related and related by marriage on my wife's side that have committed suicide. The beast has definitely hit close to home. No family is immune to this mental crisis.

Maybe more states should outlaw suicide -- that would eliminate more than half of all firearms-related deaths -- because obviously more laws are always the answer.

I would hope that they were well versed in bullet trauma. That's kind of their jobs.
